Water data

We operate a wide network of data systems for use by our teams, customers and communities.

Data for decision making

We use and share data to enable the best water decisions and outcomes.

WaterNSW uses data to make informed decisions. From the ability to monitor water quality, to using data to determine how long a customer’s order will take to be delivered, to being able to predict inflows and spill rates from our dams, data is utilised across the business to facilitate planning, monitoring and implementation activities.

We also provide data to the public such as dam levels and algae alerts. Our Early Warning Network (EWN) also allows you to sign up for notifications on dam release activities for the dam(s) of your choosing.

For more detailed information, we have developed WaterInsights. This interactive web tool covers more than 760 water sources and shows rules, allocations, trading information, storage levels, river gauges, historical data and operations updates.

We have also developed an Application Programming Interface (API) service to offer application developers a faster way to incrementally download hydrometric data that can be integrated with your applications. Application developers can register for a user account on our API developer portal to access the documentation of the APIs, and to subscribe and test the APIs.
