Regulation review
Opportunity to provide your feedback
- The WaterNSW Regulation 2020 is being reviewed by the NSW Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water (DCCEEW).
- The Regulation is essential for WaterNSW to manage and protect declared catchment areas. It also defines local councils to which WaterNSW supplies water.
- A draft updated Regulation is out for public consultation from 16 February – 16 March 2026.
- The draft WaterNSW Regulation 2026 contains much of the same content as the current Regulation; however, it has been significantly restructured and redrafted to align with the Government’s current legislative drafting approach. This means that many clauses have been renumbered.
- There are also several amendments proposed to clarify the intent or improve the effectiveness of some provisions.
A summary of key changes and information on how to make a submission can be found on DCCEEW’s webpage.
