Electronic equipment upgrade

Greater Sydney

We're upgrading remote electronic equipment across our Greater Sydney network to improve how we monitor water.

Sensors and devices collect and process data, sending it to a central control system. This is sometimes known as a SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition) system. By centralising this information, many teams can use it at once including for water planning, water quality, water delivery and asset maintenance.

Upgrades will take place at and near our dams to ensure WaterNSW is using best-practice data acquisition technology. The new components have advanced capabilities that will help us to consistently apply new standards, improve maintenance and support processes across WaterNSW.

Benefits

The upgrades to our electronic equipment will enhance monitoring capabilities and provide consistency across our water monitoring network. It will also improve maintenance support and streamline processes for our operations and maintenance teams.

Scope

The project will replace or upgrade remote electronic equipment within existing site panels on or near various WaterNSW dam sites.

The equipment being replaced includes RTUs (Remote Terminal Units) and PLCs (Programmable Logic Controllers). These devices are used for remote water monitoring and provide real-time data acquisition, processing and communication with central control systems. Both devices are programmable and can execute automated sequences based on predefined logic.
