Community invited to Bulk Water Transfer information session on 21 July

WaterNSW is inviting community members to attend an information session and learn more about an upcoming bulk water transfer from Windamere Dam to Burrendong Dam via the Cudgegong River.

The session will be held at 3pm on Tuesday 21 July 2026 at Club Mudgee (99 Mortimer Street) in the upstairs function room. No RSVP is required and walk-ins are welcome.

Based on conditions in the Macquarie-Cudgegong catchment and the Bureau of Meteorology’s long-range rainfall forecast, WaterNSW is preparing for the possibility of carrying out a bulk water transfer commencing in spring 2026.

“As the river operator, we are required to make releases from Windamere Dam to prevent storage levels in Burrendong Dam falling to an extent that would make it impossible for us to meet downstream demand,” WaterNSW’s Head of Water Planning and Delivery Ashley Webb said.

“If the transfer proceeds, at least 70 gigalitres (GL) will be retained in Windamere Dam. Modelling confirms this volume is sufficient to supply towns and industry in the Cudgegong valley for several years.

“We are inviting the community to come along to the sessions, ask questions and learn more.”
