Blowering Dam closed for investigations into a possible water quality issue

3 FEBRUARY 2024

WaterNSW has temporarily closed Blowering Dam as a precautionary measure to protect the community, while urgent investigations into an unknown, black organic matter observed on the lake surface take place.

Water samples from multiple areas across the dam are being sent for analysis. Laboratory testing is being prioritised with results expected in the coming days.

Blowering Dam is a popular recreational area and we apologise for the inconvenience of closing the dam at short notice.

WaterNSW will reopen access to Blowering Dam as soon as we confirm it is safe to do so.

At this stage, there is no vehicle access to the dam wall, all boat ramps are closed, water activities including swimming and boating are not permitted.

The walking track to the dam wall remains open.

Blowering Dam is an amazing place to enjoy a beautiful summer’s day and while we want the community to enjoy the lake, we also want them to be safe. Public health and safety are our top priority, and until we can confirm the organic matter observed in the lake is no threat to human health, it’s responsible to restrict access.

We will update the community as soon as we have further information.
