Lake Cargelligo lowering underway to enable upgrades

26 APRIL 2023

Preparatory works to enable upgrades to the Lake Cargelligo embankment are now in progress, with the drawdown of water levels to 50 percent under way.

“It is essential that this drawdown takes place before major work starts to ensure we meet our environmental requirements, reduce risks to construction, and for the safety of our workers,” a WaterNSW spokesperson said.

“When the embankment upgrade work is complete, it will ensure the long-term functionality of the structures to meet the current and future needs of the local community and our customers.”

The drawdown of Lake Cargelligo is expected to reach 50 percent by mid-May, weather and water flow permitting.

Major work on the embankments is on track to start in mid-2023, following the completion of the drawdown and ongoing trial embankment and investigation work.

“The community will continue to be able to enjoy access onto Lake Cargelligo during the drawdown and once the lake capacity reaches half capacity.

“The public boat ramp next to the Lake Cargelligo Boat Club will also remain open,” said a WaterNSW spokesperson.

To minimise water loss, water from Lake Cargelligo is being moved to nearby Lake Brewster.

Customers who will be impacted by the works have been contacted by WaterNSW.

WaterNSW will continue to work closely with impacted customers and will keep the wider community informed as works progress. For more information visit the Lake Cargelligo project webpage.
