Blue-green algal Red Alert lifted for Lake Brewster Regulator channel

11 APRIL 2024

The Red Alert warning for blue-green algae that was issued on 14 February 2024 for Lake Brewster Regulator channel has been lifted.

The Red Alert was lifted following two consecutive laboratory reports for algal samples of lower than red alert level. The Lake Brewster Regulator channel is now on Amber Alert for blue-green algae.

While on an Amber Alert, the water is generally considered to be suitable for water sports, but water users are advised to exercise caution. It is also advised not to drink untreated or boiled water from the dam due to the risk of stomach upsets. Boiling the water does not inactivate algal toxins.
