Barwon-Darling Management Zones Flow Class Map

Barwon-Darling Management Zones Flow Class Map

Currently, in NSW, there are a number of water sharing plans that include flow class rules for specific water access license categories. These flow class rules are related to a management zone or water source in a water sharing plan and are controlled by a stated discharge value (megalitres per day for one or more specific stream gauges) in that plan.

Flow Classes

The Barwon-Darling Unregulated and Alluvial Water Sources 2012 Water Sharing Plan includes the following flow classes:

  • The river has stopped flowing at the flow reference points.
  • This flow class only allows the towns to access water from the weir pools and Basic Landholder Rights (BLR) access for those riparian properties, and the taking of water for domestic purposes (for non-riparian licence holders), provided the volume does not exceed 1 kilolitre per house per day.
  • The river is flowing at very low rates at the flow reference points.
  • This flow class allows water to be taken for town water supply BLR, and the taking of water for domestic and stock purposes, provided the volume does not exceed the lesser of 14L/ha of grazeable area or 0.6 ML/day and the water is distributed by pipe and trough reticulated systems.
  • The river is flowing at higher flow rates at the flow reference points.
  • This flow class allows water to be taken for BLR, town water supply, domestic and stock purposes, and farms/businesses with 'A' Class licences.
  • The river is flowing at moderately higher flow rates at the flow reference points.
  • This flow class allows water to be taken for BLR, town water supply, domestic and stock purposes, and farms/businesses with 'A' Class and 'B' Class licences.
  • The river is flowing at much higher flow rates at the flow reference points.
  • This flow class allows water to be taken for BLR, town water supply, domestic and stock purposes, and farms/businesses with 'A' Class, 'B' Class licences and 'C' Class licences.

Barwon-Darling Management Zones Flow Classes

The Barwon-Darling Management Zones Flow Class Map is relevant to clause 45 and its associated Table A of the Water Sharing Plan for the Barwon-Darling Unregulated and Alluvial Water Sources 2012 ('the WSP'). The Barwon-Darling Management Zones Flow Class Map indicates when the flow rates (pursuant to the 'ML/day' reference in Column 5 of Table A, defined in point 3, below) necessary to access water under each WSP flow class are met, pursuant to the rules in clause 45 of the WSP.
