Warragamba Rockface Stability

Warragamba Rockface Stability

About the project

  • WaterNSW is undertaking upgrade work to stabilise the rock face near the valve house at Warragamba Dam
  • This work is essential to protect Warragamba Dam infrastructure and to continue supplying high quality water as part of Greater Sydney’s water supply system
  • Warragamba Dam typically supplies 80% of Sydney’s water and is one of the largest domestic water supply dams in the world
  • The works are being undertaken on WaterNSW lands in areas where there is limited public access
  • Geovert Ground Engineering Pty Ltd won the tender to undertake the upgrades which start in October 2018 and are scheduled to finish by the end of 2018.

  • This work will ensure WaterNSW continues to protect water supply infrastructure as well as meet contemporary WHS and safety requirements
  • This project will create jobs and ensure the delivery of high quality water to customers

Operations during the upgrades

Warragamba Dam will continue to operate as normal during the upgrade

For safety reasons public access to the Lower Terraced picnic area of the dam is closed due to construction work taking place in the area

Every effort will be made to ensure that visitors continue to access the dam wall on weekends and public holidays

WaterNSW recommends that visitors check the dam website page to check for closures when planning a visit to Warragamba Dam during this time.

Project schedule

  • October 2018 - upgrade work to start at Warragamba
  • December 2018 – upgrade work scheduled to finish
