Keepit upgrade

Keepit upgrade

About the upgrade

  • Cost: in excess of $100 million
  • Funded by: the NSW Government

Purpose

Upgrade works will ensure compliance with contemporary safety standards. Works package one of the Keepit Dam safety upgrade was completed in 2011 and involved the construction of two spillways and three saddle dams. Works package two involves strengthening the main dam wall and electrical relocation works.

As part of works package two, additional strengthening is required on the spillway section of the dam, extending the works until the end of summer 2020. For safety reasons, public access to the main wall is not permitted during the construction period. A viewing and turning area is available at the approach to the main wall.

WaterNSW apologises for any inconvenience to the public caused during this period. Storage capacity and water releases will not be altered by the upgrade.

Benefits

  • Improved ability of dam to withstand extreme floods and earthquakes
  • Stimulating local economy during construction
