Blue Mountains assets upgrade

About the project

WaterNSW is continuing to deliver the Blue Mountains Asset Upgrade program to refurbish and restore various assets across dams, weirs, regulators and water supply infrastructure to improve water delivery to our customers.

Initiated in 2017, the program aims to improve access conditions, facilitate efficient water delivery and ensure that infrastructure continues to meet current operation and safety standards, environmental and heritage requirements.

The second program of work is underway and construction is planned to start in June 2019 and due for completion in early 2020.

Works will be completed in stages as sites are prioritised based on current condition and with the more critical assets being scheduled first. Remaining sites will be assessed and scheduled in future work programs.


  • This work will ensure WaterNSW continues to protect water supply infrastructure as well as meet current operation and safety requirements.
  • This project will create approximately 30 jobs and ensure the delivery of high quality water to customers

During the upgrade

During construction, there will be an increase in personnel, vehicle movements, noise and dust near the sites and changes to the water flow in rivers. Prior to work starting, traffic management and signage will be in place, landowners near our work sites will be notified.

At relevant sites, water flows will be interrupted during stages of the project to allow access to refurbish infrastructure. Affected customers will be notified prior to the outage.

Temporary closures to public recreation, picnic areas and roads near our work sites may be required to ensure the safety of our visitors. When areas are closed due to construction activities, they will be listed below.
