WaterNSW working with Lachlan community on wall project

27 May 2020

As part of plans to raise the wall at Wyangala Dam, WaterNSW is already working with key stakeholders in Lachlan valley communities.

This includes Reflections Holiday Parks - manager of Wyangala Waters and Grabine holiday parks.

Among the first stages of the $650 million wall-raising project will be construction of a new Wyangala Waters’ holiday park facility, commencing in October this year, to which Wyangala Waters will be relocated once the new site is completed in late 2021.

The relocation of the Grabine Holiday Park will commence after October 2021 along with the relocation of other civic amenities prior to the construction of the new dam wall.

WaterNSW again met with Reflections’ management on 12 May to provide further support in ensuring their annual site holders and holiday van owners are kept informed with timely updates on project developments and the relocation project.

To achieve this, WaterNSW will assist Reflections to employ community engagement officer to help in relaying critical information to their site holders and van owners.

In line with COVID19 precautions, Reflections will host a webinar to provide a comprehensive project overview, and to address specific issues raised by park users.

WaterNSW has worked with Reflections to clarify key timelines for the Wyangala Waters’ relocation, confirming that while work on the new site commences in October 2020, the park will continue operating at its current location until that work is completed in late 2021, according to WaterNSW Acting CEO, Andrew George.

“WaterNSW keenly appreciates the importance of keeping the community well-informed on significant projects such as this and has put in place practical measures to make information available – in the case of park users, a local person employed to answer their questions,” he said.

“While our work over many years on previous Wyangala Dam upgrades has included extensive face-to-face community engagement, the constraints of COVID19 mean we need to put in place sound alternatives and that is what we are doing.”
