Red Alert blue-green algal warning lifted for Burrendong Dam

Red Alert blue-green algal warning lifted for Burrendong Dam

24 April 2020

The red alert warning for the Burrendong Dam in the Macquarie River has now been lifted.

Monitoring conducted by WaterNSW has shown that concentrations of blue-green algae have declined prompting the lifting of the Red Alert. There is currently no alert for blue-green algae in the Burrendong Dam.

The water is generally considered to be suitable for water sports, but water users are advised to exercise caution. It is also advised not to drink untreated or boiled water from the storage due to the risk of stomach upsets.

Water users should use personal discretion at all times before entering a water body and be aware that the algal situation can change quickly.

The no alert blue-green algal warning level suggests that the water is suitable for stock watering.

WaterNSW will continue routine water quality monitoring and advise of any change as new results are received.
