Temporary pump restriction for Barwon-Darling enviro release

Temporary pump restriction for Barwon-Darling enviro release

15 April 2019

Water users are advised that the NSW Government will implement a section 324 temporary pump restriction for the Barwon-Darling River system to protect environmental flows from Wednesday (17 April).

The restriction will remain in place until 30 June 2019 for:

  • Unregulated river (A Class, B Class and C Class) access licences in Barwon-Darling unregulated water source from Mungindi to Tilpa.

Releases from Copeton Dam, commencing tomorrow (Tuesday, 16 April), and from Glenlyon Dam later this month, will eventually total up to 35 gigalitres (GL).

The water will be available for stock and domestic use, town supply and critical needs.

Customers intending to order licenced stock and domestic water in the Border Rivers or Gwydir up to 30 June must place a water order before close of business on 29 April.

Releases from Tareelaroi Weir into the Mehi River in the Gwydir valley commenced today (Monday, 15 April).

It is estimated that the combined flows will reach Collarenebri by mid-May and could travel as far as Brewarrina, depending on seepage and evaporation losses in transit.

The pump restriction extends to Tilpa to protect any flows arriving into the Darling River via the Warrego River, though these flows are expected to be low in volume.

WaterNSW will provide regular operational updates to customers and communities as the environmental releases proceed.

WaterNSW is encouraging customers to ensure their contact details are registered and correct by contacting the customer service information line (1300 662 077).
