Stevens Weir restoration program brought forward

Stevens Weir restoration program brought forward

25 September 2019

WaterNSW, the state’s bulk water supplier and system operator, is restoring Stevens Weir in the Murray Valley.

This restoration at Stevens Weir starts on 1 October 2019 and is scheduled to finish in late 2020.

Recoating Stevens Weir and its gates occurs once every 20 years, but the program has been brought forward while the water levels are low. This is designed to reduce impacts on customers in future years.

Importantly, the coating program will have no impact on normal river operations.

The work will also ensure that these essential water supply structures continue to meet contemporary standards into the future.

It’s important to note that there may be increased traffic movements and some localised noise impacts during the work.

For safety purposes, access to the weirs and surrounding recreation areas will be restricted. Stevens Weir, however, will remain operational throughout the coating program.

WaterNSW is committed to informing the community and key stakeholders about the work and ensuring disruptions are minimal.
