Safety concerns behind Toonumbar boat ramp closure

Safety concerns behind Toonumbar boat ramp closure

15 November 2019

WaterNSW is advising the public that the boat ramp used to access the dam storage for leisure craft will be closed until further notice, citing safety concerns.

With the dam storage falling to 39% of capacity, the end of the boat ramp is now exposed and in the interests of public safety public vehicle access will be restricted effective immediately.

WaterNSW executive manager assets, Ronan Magaharan, said safety considerations must be paramount.

“While WaterNSW appreciates that this measure curtails recreational access for users of this popular water source, WaterNSW has an unwavering commitment to the safety of our staff, and the broader community, including visitors to our sites,” he said.

“The risk is that someone backing a boat trailer drops off the end of the ramp and there is some adverse safety incident as a result and WaterNSW will not take that risk.

“WaterNSW will place signage at the boat ramp and on the approach road to advise visitors of the decision, and will also notify the public as soon as circumstances change and access is restored.”
