Recreational areas including Bendeela to remain closed until further notice

22 December 2019

WaterNSW advises that multiple recreational areas in the Greater Sydney, Shoalhaven and Illawarra areas, including Bendeela, will remain closed until further notice in the interests of safety. WaterNSW will re-assess the closure status on Wednesday 1 January as to whether sites will be reopened from Thursday 2 January.

The following recreational areas are closed:

  • Avon
  • Woronora
  • Warragamba
  • Bendeela
  • Cataract
  • Cordeaux
  • Fitzroy Falls Fishing Area
  • Nepean
  • Tallowa

Fitzroy Falls picnic area and Wingecarribee picnic area are open at this time.

A number of fires are burning throughout the Greater Sydney, Blue Mountains, Shoalhaven and Illawarra regions. In response to these conditions, WaterNSW made the decision to close the recreational areas in the interests of protecting the public and our employees. This decision is consistent with other groups including some local Councils and National Parks and Wildlife Service who have closed a number of other areas due to the fire emergency.

WaterNSW remains committed to the safety of employees and the public and will keep the community updated.
