Access to carryover allocations restricted for Belubula River water users

02 October 2019

Water users are advised that the NSW Government has enforced a section 324 temporary restriction on carryover water access for general security users on the Belubula River.

Due to the severe drought conditions general security water users in the Belubula Regulated River Water Source, the following s324 order applies:

  • A temporary water restriction has been made to allow access from 1 October 2019 to no more than 40% of water held in general security access water allocation accounts as at 30 September 2019.

The carryover restriction will be in place from 1 October 2019 to 30 June 2020.

This action is vital to reserve remaining water for critical human and high priority needs and the approach is consistent with the NSW Extreme Events Policy.

The carryover restriction is in response to extremely low inflows and high delivery loss. As a result, general security restrictions are necessary to maintain water for essential supplies through 2019/20.

Supplies to critical human and high priority needs will be under greater pressure in the 2019/20 water year without this intervention.

This restriction does not apply to taking water for testing metering equipment of up to a total of 1 megalitre for pumps larger than 500mm and 0.5ML for all other works.

Qualified persons testing metering equipment will be required to notify NRAR within 24 hours of any take for testing.
