Tour Chaffey Dam wall on Open Day

09 April 2018

The Chaffey Dam wall will be opened for public tours as part of the WaterNSW Chaffey Dam Open Day on Saturday, 21 April 2018.

Interactive heritage displays, dam information and fun educational activities will also be part of the day based in the Bowling Alley Point Recreation Area.

Visitors will be able to catch a free bus from the recreation area and head down to the dam wall, WaterNSW spokesperson Tony Webber said.

“We are inviting the community to catch one of the free buses to the dam wall to get a closer look at the Morning Glory Spillway and better understand how the dam works,” Mr Webber said.

“Access to the wall will only be available from one of the buses. No access will be provided from the public viewing area.”

The day coincides with the Tamworth Heritage Festival, Mr Webber said.

“Chaffey Dam has a rich history from construction in the 1970’s up to the recent upgrade and augmentation works.

“The heritage display will include old construction photos and dam operation records as well as photos and a video of the recent works.”

The Westpac Rescue Helicopter will provide a sausage sizzle and cold drinks.

NSW Maritime will run boating safety demonstrations, giveaways and offer information on licencing and registration.

The day will run from 10am – 3pm in the Bowling Alley Point Recreation Area on the Tamworth-Nundle Road.
