Bendeela Reserve open for school holidays

26 September 2018

WaterNSW is opening the popular, family-friendly back area of Bendeela Recreation Area for the October school holidays.

High visitation rates are expected, especially across the October long weekend. If capacity is reached, there will be limits placed on campers entering the site.

The back area will be open from midday 28 September through to midday 15 October.

Visitors are also reminded that campers will not be permitted to use gas stoves should a total fire ban be applied. Any restrictions will be published on the WaterNSW website.

There will also be increased signage and security on site, and WaterNSW staff will be making regular patrols throughout the holiday period.

“Bendeela is a vital part of Greater Sydney’s drinking water catchment, so all visitors are urged to follow the rules and be respectful of wildlife and other visitors,” a spokesperson for WaterNSW said.

“We're asking everyone to do the right thing and ensure they have a safe and pleasant experience.

“It is important that visitors and WaterNSW work together to minimise any impact on the water storage areas and to ensure the safety of all visitors and wildlife.”

Visitors are encouraged to give local wildlife space, especially the bare-nosed wombats that frequent the area. Drivers are urged to stick to the 15km/h speed limit in the park and let WaterNSW or security know immediately if a wombat is injured.

Bendeela Recreation Area is managed as two separate areas depending on the number of vehicles and visitors. The alcohol-free section of the camping ground has been well received by visitors since it was introduced in late 2015.

Visitors planning to visit the Bendeela Recreation Area, or any other WaterNSW recreation area over the school holiday period, should refer to information on the 'Visit a Dam' section.
