Preparations for the second stage of the Keepit Dam upgrade will begin in the coming weeks, with access to the dam wall to be restricted from Thursday 23 March 2017.

Andrew George, WaterNSW Executive Manager Asset Solutions and Delivery said the second stage of the Keepit Dam Upgrade is scheduled to begin in April 2017 and will continue until mid-2019.

“For safety reasons, public access to the main wall will not be permitted during the site preparation or construction periods, however a viewing and turning area will be available at the approach to the main wall,” he said.

“The water level of the dam and normal water releases will not be affected by the upgrade and access to recreational areas will be maintained throughout the works.

“WaterNSW has been in contact with recreational user groups and landowners regarding the Keepit upgrade and will continue to keep them informed as the project progresses.”

Keepit is one of seven dams WaterNSW is upgrading to comply with NSW Dams Safety Committee standards for extreme floods and earthquakes.

SRG Limited has been awarded the $24.4 million contract for the second stage, which involves installing post-tensioned cable anchors vertically through the dam wall.

Keepit’s upgrade is being carried out in two packages of work; the first was completed in 2012 and involved constructing new spillways and saddle dams.
