Lower Darling River flows are making their way south of Pooncarie at almost 1000 megalitres per day (ML/day), having filled the town’s weir pool last week.

WaterNSW, the State’s river system operator, has commenced airspace releases from Wyangala Dam, which is currently at 90% of storage capacity.

WaterNSW will begin releasing up to 35,000 megalitres of water from Menindee Lakes into the lower Darling River from Thursday (28 July) to benefit landholders and the township of Pooncarie.

Following the rainfall in recent weeks Warragamba Dam is currently close to full capacity. Based on predicted rainfall Warragamba Dam is unlikely to spill and WaterNSW is currently operating the Warragamba Dam gates manually in order to lower the water level to just below full supply level.
